MIAM

"A space equipped with the latest immersive sound diffusion technologies, dedicated to contemporary and interdisciplinary production, at the service of local, regional and international cultural organisations".

Located on the site of the former Poya military barracks in Fribourg, in an acoustically-treated former bunker, MIAM is designed to be versatile and modular, capable of hosting both sound research projects and multimedia and interdisciplinary productions. With equipment that is unique in Switzerland, MIAM is destined to become an unprecedented creative space in the Swiss cultural landscape, and an internationally recognised centre of expertise in spatialized music.   

From location-based to mobile broadcasting, the variable configuration of the space and the advantageous range of equipment available mean that sound broadcasting systems can be moved around without interrupting the operation of the hall. This gives artists in residence the unique opportunity to create a 'portable format' of their spatialised work, which can easily be presented in other cultural spaces.    

As well as a fully-equipped bunker that allows musical explorations without the constraint of noise pollution, the project also benefits from access to various reception areas in adjacent buildings or in the surrounding area. The site, located just a few minutes from the city centre, offers a complete, high-quality space for audiences and artists alike. 

The auditorium is equipped with the latest technology for creating three-dimensional sound spaces, more commonly known as immersive spaces. Located on the site of the former military barracks in Fribourg, it has been acoustically optimised since June 2024.

This space of over 180 square metres lends itself to intimate moments of sharing with one or more musicians, as well as active listening during broadcasts of multichannel sound works.
